The successes of Wonder Woman and Girls Trip are giving us a glimmer into what could happen when more women are included in film. One of the biggest hurdles to an equal playing field for us is how motherhood is handled by production behind the scenes and how it is depicted on-screen. I wanted to hear from my friend Heather Denton who has

worked as an first and second assistant director on all kinds on films, including ones for Jill Soloway and Quentin Tarantino. She gives me the skinny on how she has managed motherhood with her career behind the camera and how she makes an effort to support female directors.

Christy Lamb is a producer and the Director Of Strategy & Development for http://momsinfilm.org. They were responsible for the Wee Wagon day care for attendees of the SXSW Film Festival. They also started the #MakeThemMoms campaign. MIF is strategizing childcare on set with their #budgetthebaby campaign. This would be huge for parents in production who are often lower and middle class families and left out of consideration when we talk about the film industry.

Let me know how greater access to child care would help families where you work. Comment below or find me on twitter @katiefward or https://www.facebook.com/TheEnthusiasmEnthusiast/.
