How To Travel For Next To Nothing: With Nina Manni

One of my favorite things is to see is when a friend keys into their passion. This has been the case with my friend and repeat guest, Nina Manni. She left her comedy career behind when she realized it wasn’t making her happy. What DID make her happy was traveling all over the world for CHEAP, but doing it well. Once she figured out how to do it, she wanted to help others do it too. She’s got some great tips for everyone!

Surviving Grief: With Kate Spencer

Kate Spencer knows everyone cool, and everyone cool knows Kate Spencer. This is what I’ve come to realize after getting to know this woman. The writer and Upright Citizens Brigade alum is the kind of person who is both wildly clever and fiercely self-deprecating. The two of us recently teamed up on a bus full of women activists helmed by Jane Fonda (YES, THE JANE FONDA) to electrify voters who normally sit out of mid-term elections. Kate held the map and kept the ledger. I knocked on the doors and did most of the chatting. We stayed in our respective lanes and were a good team!

Taylor Swift, Silicon Valley, & Fighting Sexual Harassment: With Tammy Cho

When Taylor Swift, one of the biggest celebrities in the world, has to fight tooth and nail against harassment, we know there’s a problem. Or how about Tig Notaro addressing the years long allegations against Louis CK? I still shudder to think about Ellen Pao, working incredibly hard to move up the ladder at work, only to be trapped on a plane with a CEO talking about porn. Then, she lost her case while the whole nation watched.

Moms In Film: With Heather Denton & Christy Lamb

The successes of Wonder Woman and Girls Trip are giving us a glimmer into what could happen when more women are included in film. One of the biggest hurdles to an equal playing field for us is how motherhood is handled by production behind the scenes and how it is depicted on-screen. I wanted to hear from my friend Heather Denton who has worked as an first and second assistant director on all kinds on films, including ones for Jill Soloway and Quentin Tarantino. She gives me the skinny on how she has managed motherhood with her career behind the camera and how she makes an effort to support female directors.
